Three disciplines, one source

Every field I work in moves through a signal.

Pedro J. Vaz — academic researcher, FOH / studio mix & mastering engineer, and electronics builder repairing and designing tube and solid‑state gear.

About

I'm an Invited Assistant at the Instituto Superior de Engenharia, Universidade do Algarve, teaching programming and object-oriented programming, and currently pursuing a PhD in informatics, in the fields of machine learning, affective computing, and computer vision. Alongside the research comes live sound and studio engineering — FOH, mixing, and mastering — and the design and repair of tube and solid-state audio electronics. For me the three fields are the same problem in different clothes: reading the signal, understanding what it carries, and shaping it with intention.
